Organizing Church Events That Kids & Teens Will Love
Church events should always be fun, but you need to be able to connect with the teens and kids when you’re throwing an event. Whether this is your first event for that age group or trying to throw a better one: this is everything you need to know.
Be Sincere and Don’t Try Too Hard.
Trying too hard can make the event immediately boring and uncomfortable for teens. Although you may think it’s for the best if you fully throw yourself into the event, don’t let the younger generations see this. It’ll make them feel uncomfortable and like they’re being pandered to.
Instead, treat them like adults that you’re planning an event for. This levels the playing field and allows them to feel respected and seen as adults.
Offer Entertainment That Matters to Them
Don’t hire a traditional choir for a kid and teen church event! Get music that speaks to their generation instead. There are rappers that are Christian and offer a modern and fun sound with words of praise and connection to god.
If this is the teen’s first exposure to Christian rap, it can be a life-changing experience, especially with a live performance. Hire a rapper who understands your church’s needs and beliefs and is able to show that through music.
Offer Activities That Are Fun for Anyone
Fun activities can be a game-changer! You don’t have to rent out a paintball stadium or have a huge expensive event, but you should make sure it’s fun! This could be anything from camping on the grounds of the church and making s’mores to going classic and renting out a skating rink.
Whatever you decide to do, make sure it’s accessible to everyone and fun for even the guardians who might come by for the event. Any social activity will ensure that kids and teens have more fun and can make connections.
Don’t Make it Mandatory.
The worst thing you can do for a youth event makes it mandatory. This takes away the choice teens would have to feel like they showed up to the event of their own volition. Being able to feel like it was their choice is a big decision-maker on whether or not they’ll enjoy the event.
If they’re only there because they have to be, you’re already starting off on the wrong foot.
Offer Bonuses for Those That Bring Guests
Offer goodies for anyone who can bring a guest with them! This could be anything from a fun shirt that’s decorated for the event or a goodie bag of items you put together. Don’t make it too expensive or too large of an item because this might make it the only reason anyone comes instead of simply being a perk of the event.
Show guests why your church is great through this event! You’re pitching a new community to them, so make it clear why they should join.
Everyone Can Enjoy a Great Church Event
An awesome church event can be life-changing for those who go to it! Make sure to get the most out of this event and make it as inclusive as possible!
