New Locks

When you complete you get given the keys to your home. However, the truth is that you don’t know how many keys actually exist to your home! Even the old proprietor may not know. The safest option is to change the locks. This is a very simple task that can be done by yourself.

Moisture Marks

When you first view the house you’re probably too excited to notice the finer detail. That’s why a second visit is always a good idea. But, before you move in, do a thorough inspection for signs of moisture. It is easily spotted as stains on the walls, floors, or ceilings. Where it is will help you to identify what is causing it and get the issue sorted properly before your stuff fills the house.

Know Your Valves

You should identify the shut-off valves for your water and make sure they operate easily. This will save you a lot of hassle if you do have a leak anywhere in your home. Being able to shut the supply off quickly can make a big difference.

Equally, you should know where your circuit box is. This will ensure you can check it is there are any issues and confirm all the breakers are working correctly. Check Smoke Detectors

Your home will probably have smoke detectors fitted already, these are lifesavers. If they are not mains powered then you need to replace the batteries in them. It’s also important to test them immediately and at regular intervals to ensure they are working properly.

Clean
