If you’re getting close to your due date, you’re probably already stocked up on some of the essentials. There’s a big chance that your baby shower got you covered in terms of things like newborn clothes, diapers, baby blankets and some toys for your new little bundle of joy. However, there are a few other things that you might want to consider investing in as the big day approaches.

Food for You and Baby

Take my word for it, cooking is going to be the very last thing on your mind when you come home from the hospital and settle in with the baby. Grab some ready frozen meals to chuck into your freezer for those first couple of days and weeks when you’ll be just too tired to even think about nourishing yourself. You’ll definitely want to stock up on some food for your little one too. Even if you’re planning on breastfeeding, it’s a good idea to invest in a quality alternative like the S-26 Alula Newborn Formula, in case you find you need to supplement in the first few days while your milk supply comes in.

Blackout Curtains

This may seem like a strange addition to the list, but baby’s sleep (as well as Mom and Dad’s sleep) is important and can be hard to come by in the first few months. Investing in some blackout curtains will help the baby to sleep better and longer by blocking out the light that might disturb his or her sleep early in the morning or in the afternoons. More sleep for baby means more sleep for parents too, it’s a win-win!

A Neutral Diaper Bag

What many new moms don’t realise when shopping for a diaper bag is that this is about to become your purse that you wear with every outfit, no matter where you’re going. Whether it’s the supermarket, the mall, a friend’s house, out for dinner, you name it, the bag is there. That’s why it’s a good idea to pick a bag that’s practical but also something you like the look of and can work with any outfit. Mom-life doesn’t have to mean that you can’t look put together when you leave the house.

Drawer Dividers

You might feel inundated with baby clothes after hosting a baby shower AND all the impulsive buying since falling pregnant because “it’s just so cute!” Keeping everything organised for each different age, stage and season can become a nightmare and it’s easy for your baby clothing cupboards and drawers to feel like a tsunami of material. Getting some sturdy drawer dividers to help organise everything into categories can not only make everything feel neat and organised (you go, Mom), but it’s also way easier to keep track of what baby should be wearing and when. Once your baby is no longer fitting into certain clothes, they can be assigned their own space to be kept away for future children or donating to charities later on.
