Hitting Refresh on your Home

As you’ve probably come to realise, interior design is a bit of a thing of mine. I was lucky enough to move into a new house that needed lots of work. Some people would flinch at the idea, but for me it was a dream! I got to design my own kitchen and add my own personal touch to each of the rooms. In all honesty, I can’t wait to move so I can redecorate all over again!

Restyling your house doesn’t necessarily mean you have to move, though. I am a big fan of room makeovers and refreshes, which mean you don’t have to go all out and break the bank, but still get to switch things up and create a new look or feel. Exciting right!? I’d be crazy to pack up and move again right after settling in {I won’t lie, I probably am that crazy} but here’s some tips for those of you who are craving a little reform at home.

*Clear some space ~ While this could be as simple as tidying up a bit, it may be necessary to install some storage. Whether it’s the kids rooms, the office or even your kitchen, adding shelving or cabinets creates a home for all that stuff that’s usually all over the place, plus cabinets are perfect for putting even more stuff on top of to add character – ornaments or plants maybe? Think rustic coffee table that doubles as a storage chest!

*Change the colour scheme ~ Colour adds so much to a room and it can also affect how you feel. You could change the mood of various rooms by repainting with warm or cool tones, or just add a splash of colour by setting a theme with cushions and artwork. Whitewashing a room can make everything feel fresh and clean and give your home a modern feel. Nothing will look out of place as everything goes with white, right! People often shy away from bold and dark colours, but navy blue with a touch of white can look really elegant too.

*Replace the furniture ~ What better way to refresh a room than getting some new furniture pieces? Perhaps some things just need replacing, like that old mattress you keep flipping, or others would just be nice to have, like a fancy new bathtub for your en suite {the dream}. Again, it doesn’t have to be something huge, you could just change the mirrors or switch the faucets for a fancier feel. Check out this gorgeous new look by tradewindsimports.com.

I’ll say it one last time, refreshing your home doesn’t have to be expensive, it could be as simple as adding some plants, changing the lighting and moving existing things around. Or you could treat yourself to some fancy pieces! What steps have you take to refresh the rooms in your home?
