Reasons I love Autumn

And the sun took a step back,
the leaves lulled themselves to sleep
and Autumn was awakened.

Last week, when it was wet and cold, I was sat desperately missing the summer. The sunshine, the blue skies, being able to wear one layer of clothes, walking barefoot… I’m one of those people who get cold so easily, I have Raynaud’s so give me the slightest bit of cold weather and my fingers and toes go numb, and I’m pretty sure I already have a chilblain. Basically, I should live in a country where it is summer all year long.

Then at the weekend, we got blue skies and sunshine. Yes, it was still pretty chilly – but it was beautiful. It reminded me how much I do actually love Autumn {I just don’t love the rain}, so I thought I’d make a little list of all the good things about this season, to remind myself to be grateful for this moment, instead of wishing for what has passed.

* The leaves – seriously, taking a walk through the park when the ground is covered in a rainbow of leaves is the best. They look so beautiful, all the different shades and shapes mixed up together, and even as a grown up, how much fun is it to stomp on crunchy leaves or run through them kicking them up as you go?!

* New Beginnings – years of new school years starting in September, and it sstillhas that feeling of newness about it. A chance to start afresh, begin new chapters, start new projects.

* Low, morning sun ~ waking up on a sunny Autumn morning, to blue skies with the sun low in the sky is magical somehow. The light it casts and the shadows are beautiful, and it makes everything glisten.

* Knitwear ~ as much as I love not having to wear layers, I do have a secret passion for knitwear. My giant pile of jumpers and cardigans will attest to that fact!

* Pumpkins ~ be it to carve, to eat, to drink {hai Pumpkin Spice Latte} or just as decoration I love me some pumpkins.

* Fires ~ nothing beats gathering around the firepit, but in the summer, the heat isn’t always welcome {or needed}. Now Autumn is here you can find me sat around the firepit on a Friday night – far better than a nosy pub or club in my books!

* The smell of earth in the rain ~ a slightly weird one, but when it rains on those early Autumn days, there is something about the smell that rises from the earth that always makes me feel nostalgic. I don’t know what it is, or what memory it holds, but I do love it.
