5 winter hair care tips

This cold weather wreaks havoc with my hair. The central heating dries it out, and the damp weather means it frizzes up as soon as I step outside the door. I’ve found a few key tips really have made a difference in keeping my hair healthier through the winter months.

1| Wear a hat outdoors – nNot only will a hat keep your ears nice and cosy, it protects your hair from the wind, rain and snow – helping eliminate the dreaded frizz that comes with the damp weather!

2| Deep Condition – set aside some time once a week for a deep conditioning treatment. My favourite is just coconut oil. I smother my hair in it before bed, wrap it in a turban so I don’t make a mess, and leave it on overnight, before shampooing out. It makes a HUGE difference and was what saved my hair last winter after I’d bleached out the red dye.

3| Choose specialist products – if you have a specific hair problem, like lack of volume or hair loss, choosing products specifically designed for that condition is vital.

4| Keep washing to a minimum – too much hair washing will dry your hair out, so try to keep two/three days between washes. Also – be sure to dry your hair before leaving the house, as going in the cold with wet hair will make it more brittle and dry.

5| Invest in a humidifier for home – central heating really dries out your hair and skin. Investing in a humidifier really is worthwhile, and you’ll notice a difference quickly.
