For the love of audio books…

My girls all love audio books, while we all love reading and I’m more than happy to read to them, audio books have a great place in our family. For a while, my youngest daughter had one on every night for bedtime as she went through a phase of being a little afraid of the dark, and the comfort of a story helped her drift off to sleep. We also like to pop them on in the day time whilst we’re playing or crafting. On a cold winters day you’ll more often than not find us, all together in the playroom, with jigsaws, or colouring books, lego or watercolours and a story playing in the background. For my littler ones, its a way to listen to stories that they can’t quite manage to read by themselves just yet. Since Vega was born, my time has been really stretched, so while I still try and read a bedtime story most days, it often has to be a shorter than before one.

Audible recently asked us to review The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling.  The Jungle Book is has a cast that includes Bill Bailey as Baloo, Richard E Grant as Kaa and Martin Shaw as Shere Khan. Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book – The Mowgli Stories is available here.  Audible are giving 25p from every download to help ZSL build a future for wildlife. Check out this clip for a taste of just how great this audio book version is:

This week has been a wet and cold one here in Wales, and we’ve all been full of cold and feeling a little sorry for ourselves. We’ve really enjoyed listening to this story, it was always one of my favourties as a child, and my girls all love the movie. It’s certainly one that we will listen to again and again. I also really love audio books for long journeys – we often travel by train and they really help break up the journeys.

We love Audible – there are so many books to choose from, for grown ups as well as kiddos – you’re bound to find something to listen to!
