Carrying on traditions and ‘firsts’ for the last time.

One of the first toys that we bought Lola as a baby was a little sheep. A ‘Jellycat’ sheep – named ‘medium bungley sheep’ {so said the label – which also read ‘please look after me’} That little sheep began a love affair for us with Jellycat toys.. our T K Maxx always seems to have some in, and it became a tradition of sorts to get our babies one. So when it was Vega’s turn, Kiki picked out this gorgeous hedgehog for him from ‘Say it with Bears‘*. He came with a tag saying ‘Medium Bashful Hedgehog – please look after me’. He’s gorgeous and soft and tickly… here’s hoping Vega enjoys cuddling him!

When Lola was a baby and we were new parents, finding our feet in this totally new world, there were so many ‘firsts’ to see… the first smile, the first laugh, the first steps, then later the first time she said ‘I love you’ and so on… those first were just as exciting for number two and number three. As parents, it’s always so amazing to see your baby grow and reach all of these milestones.

Bitter sweet.

As wonderful as it is, a little part of you is always sad about the stage they are leaving behind.

Fourth time around, we were all so excited to see Vega’s first smile and hear his first laugh. He’s lucky enough to have five of us cheering him on as he reaches each milestone along the way.

He seems to be reaching them far too soon… he’s so eager to catch his sisters up and be able to join in with them. He watches as they play and his arms and legs go wild… you can tell he wants to be up there running around with them.

Part of me wishes he’s slow down. For each milestone he reaches, you can seem him becoming more ‘boy’ and less ‘baby’.

As, most likely, my last baby, I want to hold on to these days. Keep him snuggled in my arms for as long as I can.

Just the other day I saw a two week old baby, snuggled in the same bear onsie Vega wore as a newborn, and oh how my heart ached for my tiny boy.

We took him for his first go on the swings the other day. I think he liked it!

Ahh I feel your pain!! It’s so hard to see your little ones grow up isn’t it? I’m with you on Jellycat toys, btw, we love them here and I often buy them as gifts.

it’s bittersweet isn’t it! I didn’t really feel nostalgic for baby days but more of the toddler stage, I look back on pics or videos of Wilf at two and wish I could go back to that day just one more time. Then again each and every day is better than the last although we are always that step closer to letting them go *sob*! x

If there’s one thing I’m already realising is how quickly time goes by…my pregnancy has flown by and my heart already aches when I think about how quickly baby will grow. It’s so overwhelming to keep cherishing the moments and enjoying life at the same time…the good times seem to whizz by! We’ve invested in a few Jelly Cat toys too- hoping our baby will love at least one of them! x
