Sorting out my skin
I’ve always been really lucky with my skin. Even as a teenager I only ever suffered from the odd spot here and there. I get a spot or two on my chin at that time of the month, and a few when I was pregnant, but other than those, my skins always been happy, not too dry, not too oily, just right. So a couple of weeks before my birthday, I was concerned to wake up to some kind of dry skin/eczema type rash over my chin and cheeks. My skin was really itchy and sore, and after a couple of days, the patches were really red. My usual moisturisers were irritating it and the skin on my cheeks felt really dry and tight.
My husband suggested what I needed was a Chemical Peel, to renew my skin and leave me fresh-faced!! When we have a rash on our faces, it really affects us as our face is what people see first. I felt really self-conscious about my face, and with it being so dry, couldn’t even hide it with make-up!
I did some research online, and came across some articles, one of which talked about the benefits of Coconut Oil. While I already knew it made a great ingredient in my body and bath products, I hadn’t thought about using it neat on my face. If you attend a local health class there is not doubt that they will show you how to use coconut oil for Rosacea.
I whipped up some honey + coconut oil face wash and used pure coconut oil as a moisturiser. While feeling a little greasy at first, it soon sank in, it didn’t irritate my face at all, and I could straight-away feel the benefit that it was giving me.
A couple of weeks later, and thankfully the rash has cleared up, although my skin is still really dry. I’m still using the honey/coconut face wash and created these facial lotion bars that are perfect for moisturising the delicate facial skin.
