Five Ways to Show Your Friends You Love Them
With everything that has been going on in the world thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, people are eating out less and staying home more. Many restaurants are operating with social distancing measures in place, but many people are forced to isolate themselves. This has led to a reduction in the frequency with which people are seeing their friends and loved ones.
Maintaining friendships from afar can be hard, so here are five easy ways to show your friends you are thinking of them during these difficult and unprecedented times.
1. Send a Gift
Receiving a gift in the mail is a nice reminder that people are thinking of you, so consider sending something to a friend to make their day.
Send a bunch of their favorite flowers or a box of Mozart kugel chocolate to cheer them up, or buy them a new book to keep them busy if they are isolating for their own safety.
If your friend has a good sense of humor, you could also send a gag gift to make them laugh. Companies even exist that send glitter bombs in the mail—your unsuspecting friend will open a package only to be covered in glitter!
2. Plan a Day Out
For people who are isolating to protect themselves or a vulnerable family member, it might be a good idea to plan a trip out into the world for the future, once things are calmer and safer.
Call a friend and tell them you will visit their favorite restaurant as soon as they are able. Getting fun events lined up is a good way to show friends that you care about them and are thinking about them while they might not be feeling 100%.
3. Virtual Hangouts
The huge rise in the popularity of videocall apps and software like Zoom and Discord means that it is easier than ever to have visual contact with someone, even if you are far away from them.
Organize a virtual hangout with a small group of friends. You could all watch a movie at the same time and chat about it afterwards via videocall, or set up a weekly or monthly book club.
If you usually see friends at restaurants, why not all order takeout from the same place and eat it at the same time over videocall? It is an easy way to recreate a slice of normality.
4. Plan a Vacation
Planning a vacation for next year could be a great way to show your friends that you are thinking about them. You do not have to make any bookings or reservations right now—money is tight for a lot of people right now. Instead, chat about where you might want to go and simply browse to see what’s on offer.
It is a great way to have something to look forward to that will keep people feeling positive.
5. Keep in Contact
The most important thing to do if you want to remind friends that you are there for them in these difficult times is simply to tell them. Keep in regular contact and remind friends that you are there if they need to talk or if they want to blow off some steam.
It is more important than ever to maintain relationships with the people we care about. Once the world gets up and running again, you can return to a normal life, but for now, make the effort to show some love.
