Rise and Shine: 10 Tips For a Healthy Morning Routine for Mums
The way you start your day often sets the tone for the hours ahead. A well-crafted morning routine can be a powerful tool to kickstart your day with positivity, focus, and productivity. For busy mums, having a morning routine can make a huge difference to the day, and can help you begin your day without a whirl of chaos surrounding you.
For me, a healthy morning routine means that I have time to meet my own needs as well as those of my kiddos. It allows me time for my brain to wake up in the morning, and to have a few moments to myself so that I am not feeling frustrated at having to rush around.
Why Morning Routines Matter:
A morning routine provides a structured and positive start to your day, helping to set a proactive tone. It allows you to approach the day with a clear and focused mind. By being intentional with your morning, you can enhance your efficiency and set priorities for the day. A morning routine also offers an opportunity to prioritise self-care. By dedicating time to activities that nourish your body and mind, you set the stage for overall well-being.
I think it’s vital our kids grow up seeing us take care of ourselves, and fulfilling our needs. Otherwise they will grow up into adults who don’t prioritise their own needs too.
Crafting Your Perfect Morning Routine:
1. Wake Up Early:
Start by waking up at a consistent time each day, allowing for a gradual adjustment if you’re not already an early riser. Waking up early provides quiet time and sets a peaceful tone for the day. While I don’t like having to get out of my bed too early, giving myself half an hour before the kids will be up makes a huge difference to my mood each day.
2. Give yourself plenty of time:
It can be tempting to hit snooze as many times as you can, but then you end up rushing around. Getting up earlier than you need to can take some getting used to, but in the long run it can make for a much less stressful morning.
3. Mindful Practices:
Incorporate mindfulness activities such as meditation, deep breathing, or gratitude journaling. These practices can help center your mind, reduce stress, and promote a positive outlook. I usually spend five minutes sat before my alter in a morning, I light some incesne, sometimes pull an oracle card, and give thanks for the day.
4. Physical Activity:
Whether it’s a quick workout, stretching routine, or a short walk, including physical activity in your morning routine can boost your energy levels and enhance your overall well-being. Personally, I like to get on my yoga mat in the morning. Even if I only have 10 minutes, some stretching first thing feels amazing!
.5 Hydrate and Nourish Your Body:
Begin your morning routine with a glass of water to rehydrate your body. Follow it with a nutritious breakfast to fuel your energy levels for the day ahead. It’s also worth remembering that your diet at night can have an impact on the quality of your sleep. I sleep better when I’ve had a little super at night.
6. Tech-Free Time:
Recently, I banned myself from checking emails or social media first thing in the morning. It gave me a slower start to the day, rather than bombarding my brain first thing in the morning. I’ll usually have a quick glance at my phone incase of an actual message from one of the kids or a friend that needs replying to, but otherwise try to be screen free until after breakfast.
7. Create a Ritual:
Incorporate a small ritual that brings you joy, whether it’s enjoying a cup of tea, listening to uplifting music, or spending a few moments in nature. A ritual can add a sense of comfort and consistency to your morning routine.
8. Connect with Loved Ones:
Spend a few minutes connecting with your partner or kids. A quick cuddle, a chat, or sharing breakfast together can boost everyone’s mood and strengthen family bonds. Even with my teens who are often rushing out for their own days, I’ll try to have a quick five minutes with them before they leave.
9. Plan Your Day:
Take a few moments to review and plan your day. Prioritise tasks, set realistic goals, and organise your schedule to ensure a smoother, more productive day. I’ll often jot myself a quick list for the day so I feel a little more organised!
10. Positive Affirmations:
Start the day with positive affirmations or gratitude journaling. Focusing on positive thoughts can improve your outlook and set a constructive tone for the day.
Conclusion:
Creating a morning routine is a personal journey that can significantly impact your overall well-being and daily productivity. Experiment with different activities, be patient with the process, and enjoy the benefits of a purposeful and energizing start to each day. Remember, the key is not to follow a rigid set of rules but to design a routine that aligns with your goals and values, setting the stage for a successful and fulfilling day ahead.
