Lockdown, productivity and staying sane.
May! April came and went super fast didn’t it? We had a little fire on Friday night for Beltane, and wrote some wishes on ribbons to tie on our tree. It was a quieter Beltane celebration than our usual one with friends, but lovely none the less.
I feel like I’ve lost count of how many weeks we’ve been at home now, while I cannot wait for the day we can see friends and family {and hug them!} I’m enjoying these weeks of home time. I realise how privileged we are to be able to stay home enjoying this time, I’m not a keyworker so can stay home, I’m still earning a wage from home as usual also.
While none of us would wish for this time, we may as well make the most of the time we do have. Life is usually so hectic, that I’m sure, like me, so many of you have giant to-do lists of projects around the house and garden that just don’t ever get ticked off.
I’m determined to come out of lockdown feeling I;ve been productive – so far, that’s going well! The shed has been painted, empited, sorted and put back tidily – complete with new flooring! The playhouse has been painted, plus a bench, planter and shelf unit in the garden.
The garden itself is finally starting to lok respectable after not really touching it last year. THe beds have been weeded, herbs planted, wildflower seeds sown. The overgrown corner has been cleared back so there is space for the climbing frame. We’ve knocked down a brick planter that was in the middle of the patio, just need to get some new slabs to replace the ones underneath it. I’m hoping my neighbour will let me borrow his jet wash soon to clean the patio too.
On the rainy days, I’ve sorted the playroom shelves out, cleared and sorted my office and the second hallway, there were piles of things to sell/give to charity in there. The big stuff has been sold, and the charitystuff sat waiting unitl I can drop it off.
The back door has been painted {that’s been on my list for almost five years yikes} – though now I want to do the front doors too. I’ve done various bits of sorting in the kiddos rooms – swapping beds around, putting up LED lights, posters etc
Two of our dining chairs have been painted, the rest are in progress -we’ve been planning on painting them since I bought them a couple of years ago. We’re thinking of painting the table top too… kids are pushing for a chalkboard table!
Next on the plans is to paint the upstairs bathroom, a feature wall in Baya’s room, the sideboard… and I’ve seen some amazing wallpaper I’m tempted to buy for my room!
I’ve probably never been so on top of house and garden jobs in all my life haha! At least when life gets back to some kind of normal, we’ll have a gorgeous house and garden.
WHat about you? Have you been tackling jobs on your to-do list? I know for some it’s hard, trying to juggle working at home and schooling kiddos when you are not used to those things. For me, keeping busy keeps me sane. Doing nothing leaves me too much time to sit and think, worry and dwell.
Finding yourself some projects to immerse yourself in can give you something to occupy you – something productive, that makes you feel good for having achieved something at the end of the day. Big tasks or little, they all count. Be it tidying the junk drawer in the kitchen to redecorating.
If we choose to see this time we have as a gift, a time when we are safe at home not stuck at home, we can change how we feel right now.
