Recipe | Oatmeal & Raisin Raw Balls

After a month of being back on my vegan diet, I feel so much better – physically and mentally. I’ve also been a lot more conscious of what I’m eating – after a little over-indulgence at Christmas and some less than perfect eating habits in the second half of last year, I’ve gotten back to my plant-based, clean eating mostly. I eat very little gluten {though am not entirely gluten free} and try to keep refined sugar to a minimum.

I’ve been switching those unhealthy snacks for fresh fruit, soy yogurt, bowls of museli… trying to avoid the biscuits and cake and chocolates {though they have their place still}. I wanted something that I could have on hand and grab when I’m feeling a little peck-ish – or like I want a sweet treat after a meal.

I’ve been trying out some Raw Nut & Seed Butter’s from Indigo Nutrition this month and oh boy are they delicious! I think the hazelnut butter might just be my favourite, though it’s a very hard call. Their own brand of organic, raw nut and seed butters are so tasty, and so good for you. I used the hazelnut butter as a base for these raw balls. They are quick to make, great for grabbing when you want a quick sweet treat.

I’ve made raw balls before, but this time I decided to try and make ones that tasted like my favourite cookies – oatmeal raisin. They came out pretty damn good.

I N G R E D I E N T S

1 Cup rolled oats
1/2 cup nut butter
1 tbsp maple syrup/agave syrup
2 tbsp chia seeds
1 tsp cinnamon
1/3 cup raisin

Put everything into a bowl together, and mix until it comes together in a slightly sticky dough. You can add more nut butter if too wet, or more oats if too dry.

Roll into balls that are around an inch in diameter.

Keep in an airtight container in the fridge {if you manage to not eat them all at once!}
