Room swapping, redecorating and new duvets

When I woke up this morning, there was a definite chill in the air. Autumn is settling in, and getting out of bed in the morning gets a little bit trickier! We are in the midst of some bedroom swapping here. We’re moving my bedroom downstairs into what was our den, Kiki is having my old room and Beastie will then move into her old room. This gives all the kiddos their own room, and me a peaceful haven to hide away in.

We’ve been using the room-swapping as an excuse to do a little re-decorating and replacing things that are past their best. Kiki inherited my old king size bed, which means she is on the lookout for new bedding, and once my pallet bed is made I want to replace my old duvet and linen. A fresh start sometimes is the very best thing.

I’ve decided this time to treat myself to a good quality duvet, having always had the cheapest in the past, and having noticed the difference in quality when we’ve stayed in hotels, I want some of the good stuff! My kids always laugh at how excited I get about bedtime – when you’re a kid it’s the last place in the world you want to go, but once you get a bit older, being able to snuggle in bed is the best.

On cold Autumn evenings, hopping into a bed and cuddling up beneath the covers is the best end to the day, I’m actually thinking I need to buy the warmest duvet I can. I’ve only a 10.5 tog and last winter I was freezing, so a warmer one than that is an essential. I’ve been keeping an eye out for some good deals on duvets and covers, hoping to pick up a bargain or two.

Beastie is hoping for a monster themed bedroom so we are looking out for some bedding that will fit in with that! Kiki is after things that are grey, rose gold or blush pink, and for me…. I have no idea! I’ve stuck with plain white bedding for the past few years, but feel like I want a change. I’ve opted for a teal/turquoise colour on the walls in my new room, with pops of gold, yellow and pink, so perhaps a duvet in those shades would be good.

I’ve always thought that duvets are a great way to quickly change the look and feel of a room, it always amazes me at how much of a difference a new duvet cover can make to a room. It’s those little finishing touches that bring the room together.
