Ethical Banking with Triodos Bank

When I think about banking and banks, I tend to think of them as being all about the money {obviously} and making more money for themselves, not being ethical or giving something back to the world. I was recently introduced to Triodos Bank who don’t fit that mould at all. They have over half a million customers throughout Europe, and they are one of the world’s leading sustainable banks. Triodos believe that not only can banking be a powerful force for good, they believe that it should also serve individuals and communities and contribute to a more sustainable society. Triodos Bank has the same duties as other banks to look after their savers money, but they approach banking from a completely different angle.
Triodos Bank believe that profit doesn’t need to be at the expense of the world’s most pressing environmental problems, which is why they finance organisations from organic food and farming businesses and pioneering renewable energy enterprises, to recycling companies and nature conservation projects.
They connect savers and investors who want to make a difference, with the businesses and charities which are meeting present-day needs without compromising those of future generations. For example, one of their ethical partner’s is a UK based charity called Send a Cow, who help African families to thrive in their communities by providing livestock and training. They work with the families to help create a new future and not simply get by day-to-day.
