Nothing beats a good old spring clean. After a winter shut indoors, being able to air the house out and give it a good clean makes the world of difference. Not only does it look better, but cleaning can help to reduce allergens in the house. Time4Sleep conducted a survey and found that 57% of Brits are severely at risk of dust mites due to differing hygiene habits.

As I suffer from hayfever, I find that some simple steps really make a huge difference:

* Wash bedding regularly.. our bed sheets and duvets can harbour a lot of dust mites. Washing once a week at 60 degrees can kill them.

* Hoover your mattress and use an anti-allergy mattress topper to put a barrier between you and any mites

* Use eco-friendly cleaning products… these seem to aggravate my allergies less than conventional cleaning products

* Keep throws/cushions/toys on the bed to a minimum… they can harbour even more dust mites – if you do have them, make sure they are washed often too.
