Gousto Box Review

gousto box

The past few weeks, we’ve gotten into an evening meal rut….. the meal planning seems to have been forgotten, and the more pregnant I’ve gotten the less I feel like thinking up something to cook every night! G’s been helpful and stepping in if he’s home for dinner, but we’ve been eating to the same few meals over and over far too often.

So when Gousto Box offered us one of their boxes to try out, I figured it would be a great way to at least have a couple of different meals. Gousto send you a box, aimed at either 2 or 4 people, with the recipe cards and ingredients for 3 meals. You get to select the meals that you’d like out of what they have on offer that week, it’s all then delivered to your door and all you have to do is follow the instructions and enjoy a delicious meal.

The box we tried out last week had these three meals – Autumn Sausage Traybake, Curried Lime Chicken and Beef Stroganoff. While I don’t eat meat, G, Lola and Kiki do, G often complains he has to eat veggie all the time so testing the meat box out made him happy {and I just subbed my portions with meat free alternatives}.

The Autumn Sausage Traybake is similar to a dish we often make, but served with a fresh apple sauce and crispy sage leaves made it a little different and really tasty. The beef stroganoff was probably our least favourite, but as you get to pick meals if you purchase a box, you really don’t have to have a meal that you’re not going to enjoy.

Curried Chicken

The winner for us was the curried lime chicken. Chicken {or my tofu} pan-fried in spices, served with rice and sweet potato. The best bit by far was the coriander and lime chutney that you make to accompany the meal – bursting with flavour, we’ve actually made a jar full that we’ve had with pretty much everything we’ve eaten the past week! I could happily eat this dish all the time, and I think it’ll become a permanent fixture on our meal plan {when I get around to doing one again}.

The boxes are £34.99 for 3 meals for 2 people, or £49.99 for 3 meals for 4 people. Though if you go order your first box now, you get a £15 discount {and delivery is free}. It’s probably more than I could afford regularly, though if I could I’d definitely have a regular box. It’s a great way of trying out new recipes you might not have otherwise, and with everything you need being sent to make each dish, there’s no last minute panicking that you don’t have a vital ingredient to hand.
