Workout Motivation

workout motivation

Working out…. it’s not something that I’m naturally drawn to. I never was athletic… sure, I horse rode and played netball in primary school, but by the time I was a teenager I would do anything to avoid P.E lessons. I hated them. Cross country runs through muddy tunnels and games of hockey on a freezing cold field. Not my idea of fun. It was only after baby number three, that I discovered the joy of working out. I’ve come to realise just how much of an effect working out has on my mental health – and as someone who has been through countless bouts of depression, that is enough of a reason to get me moving my butt.

I’ve had to dig deep to find my motivation again recently. Somewhere in the fuzz that was last year it up and left. I’m a creature of habit, when I’m working out six days a week that’s fine, but miss a few sessions, and before you know it, I haven’t worked out in weeks {months}. This New Year I realised that I need to kick start my motivation, and get back on the workout wagon. The one thing that keeps me going, in the midst of a hard workout and am feeling like giving up, is music. Give me the right playlist and I can keep on going even when I want to quit.

Nothing beats a whole new playlist to inspire me. I’ve been using Spotify more lately, and now we have it on our phones it was the perfect place to create a new playlist to workout to. Ten pounds a month gives ad free, offline listening with no song-skipping limits! Perfect! I have an eclectic mix of songs that I workout too… most of which I’d never pick to listen to any other time but which are just right to keep me moving. I need just the right tempo of song to keep my legs moving when they’ve had enough.

Here is my current workout playlist, I’d love to hear what songs you like to workout to! Feel free to find me on Spotify if you’re on there.

I really love your workout playlist – mine is so similar – normally I wouldn’t listen to fast, fancy time tunes but for the gym it works so well – listening to Kay Perry and Keisha a lot for gym time, as well as some hip-hop, RMB and pop regulars :) A difference to my normal Laural Caynon/Sixities/Punk/Rock tunes :)

Now that is a workout playlist! I need music to get me moving too. I really struggle with consistency with keeping active too. It’s terrible because I have a family history of diseases often related to being sedentary. I’m also prone to depressive episodes. My husband on the other hand is super active. He’s really into his cycling and, when he can get away, surfing. He’s also just starting pilates. But I’d rather just make excuses and sit on my tush and I’m starting to become more and more aware of what the long term consequences of that could be. When things have settled with the new baby…

I love your playlist! My workout playlist is also filled with songs I never listen to on a daily basis, but it’s got to have that beat to get me going! Along with dance-y pop, I tend to listen to dub step too – it gives that killer beat that just gets me pumped up!

It never used to be my thing either, I much prefer long walks. But the benefits of a good cardio session have convinced even me!

I am trying to get back into the whole work-out routine but sometimes it can be hard to be motivated in the winter months. I like to listen to Kesha when I work out..her music is so up-beat and can keep me moving.

I don’t think I did a single P.E lesson for the entire time I was at secondary school, I hated it! I do need to do start doing some exercise though, I’m awful. Once J is sleeping a bit better it’s on my list of things to do! x

Exercise is definitely such a good thing, I love the time you get to yourself to switch off and just concentrate on your body. If I’m in a bad mood or feeling restless I realise it’s because I need to exercise! Before the wedding I was doing so much exercise and was feeling really good about myself, then I let it all go a bit, and even though I still do weekly yoga and body balance classes I haven’t had a good old proper work out or run for a long time, I think I need it to clear out the winter cobwebs!

Will definitely be using your playlist though, it sounds awesome! It’s the one time you can fully embrace the cheese!
