Snow, cinema trips and sawdust

Monday again, I thought I would start writing a weekly ‘column’ on here.. a bit of a week in the life kinda post, somewhere for me to document my days and just ponder life!

The weeks seem to fly by, I swear even if we had twice as many days we’d still not have enough time to do everything. It’s been cold here, and pretty wet – and with the changing of the clocks the other week dark SO early! It makes me feel like curling up and hibernating, or at least not having to venture out after dark. Alas, with several kiddos at several different groups most nights of the week that is just a pipe dream.

Last wee was Bonfire Night though, and we attended two bonfires. One on the actual night, a small one at the Chruch next door to us. Beastie was most excited about the free hotdogs! It was lovely, small but perfect. There were fireworks to watch, and I ended up meeting a lovely lady who had home educated her five children twenty odd years ago and had a really interesting chat with her.

Then on Wednesday, we had another local bonfire to go to, a little bigger this time, with fairground rides as well! Lola went off with her friends, and the rest of us explored the fair, had a couple of rides and a go on the hook a duck for Beastie – where he won a kinda creepy looking unicorn that had no mouth or nose! The fire was huge, the fireworks amazing to watch, and we warmed up with hot chocolates once we got back home.

I love nights like that, Bonfire night was such a big thing for me when I was little, we used to have a huge fire every year down in my Grandmas fields, with food and fireworks and friends and family. I love passing on those traditions to my own kiddos.

My stress levels have felt sky-high most of the week, I seem to zoom around trying to do twenty things at once, and then I get myself all worked up. So…. I’m trying to slow down. To be more mindful of what I’m doing. Make a list of what needs doing and then breaking it down into realistic goals each day.

Mr Oren had his second-ever trip to the cinema to this week, and it went pretty well. We were attending a screening for IntoFilm of Horrible Histories. He slept through the first half, then asides from a ten-minute walk outside, he sat pretty well while we all watched. Success!

I’ve been on a mission to get back control of the house this week. It’s all felt a bit out of control since Oren was born, but I finally feel like maybe I’m winning this battle. It helps that he can go on my back in the carrier these days so I can manage to hoover and clean more. I’m not obsessed about a clean, tidy house BUT it does help my anxiety if I’m at least relatively on top of it all. And I don’t like living in a mess either. Kiki’s room is full of pets these days {a hedgehog, hamster and two gerbils} and man does that sawdust get EVERYWHERE…….

The weekend has been pretty good… with the kiddos Dad out of town we actually had a whole weekend all of us together. We’ve crafted, and baked, been bowling, watched some shows, ate a lot of yummy food and laughed a lot. The difference it makes having a whole weekend with everyone at home is huge. I wish we had it more often. And to top it off on Saturday we had snow! Beastie was very excited and desperate to go sledging, alas we only had a sprinkling but it was fun while it lasted.
