What to look for in a temporary storage solution when moving home

If you’re planning on moving house, you’ll probably be looking for ways to ease the burden a little bit. Luckily, there are so many services available nowadays that can make the moving process a lot easier. Temporary storage solutions can often be a big help, especially if you’ve got a lot of stuff. It’s important that you find the right solution, but to do that, you need to know what to look for – here are some of the main things to keep in mind.

Collection and drop-off services

While you used to have to take care of moving your belongings yourself, there are now services such as Bright Movers that can take care of that for you. Simply tell them where to pick your stuff up from, where and when you need to have it back, and they’ll take care of moving and storing it all for you. This can be massively beneficial if you don’t have access to a vehicle, or if you simply don’t have the time to keep driving your things around.

Security

While you want to get your stuff out of your hair, you still want to make sure that it’s safe. Look for storage facilities that take security seriously, with effective measures in place including security cameras, 24/7 security guards, and secure perimeters. If your belongings are particularly valuable, then it’s worth mentioning it to the storage provider, and asking them if they have any units with additional alarms and security measures available.

Accessibility

If you think that you’ll need to have regular access to your belongings while they’re in storage, then it’s important that you think about how accessible the storage solution is. You’ll want to consider both how far the storage facility is from your home, and what the opening hours are.

If you just want the stuff out of your way for the whole of the move, then this won’t matter as much. But, if you’re going to need to regularly go through your belongings, it’s definitely worth keeping in mind how long it might take to get to them.

A stable environment

If you’re storing anything that shouldn’t be damp or cold, then it’s crucial that you check on the facility’s climate control options. Some storage providers really do provide the bare minimum, with no heating or air circulation available.

If you’re storing wood, paper, or fabric items, this won’t be a suitable environment to keep your stuff in. It might cost a little bit more to find an option with climate control options, but nowadays, it’s become far more common than it used to be. Besides, if you want to get your things back in the condition you left them in, it’s not really something you can do without.

What you look for in a storage provider will depend to a certain extent on what you need. That being said, no matter what you’re storing, it’s always worth checking the reviews and customer feedback for the option you go with. At the very least, you want to be dealing with people who are easy to communicate with, and with a bit of research, it’s not too difficult to work out whether that will be the case or not.
