12 years. The Mr and I met September ’01… we started dating March ’02, I moved in with him April ’02 and we got married August ’02!! We don’t mess about!

Did you plan on having kids while you were so young?

Honestly, no. Up until I was 20, I was adamant that I didn’t want children. We found out I was pregnant with Lola two weeks after we got married. I’ll admit it was a huge shock, but a very welcome surprise. Becoming a mama was without a doubt the best thing that ever happened to me. My children showed me what is truly important and gave me reason to build a life I love.

How old are your children?

Kiki is 9

What made you decide to homeschool and were you homeschooled?
Nope – I wasn’t homeschooled. I went through the regular school system. I didn’t like it much, but I did well academically My mum was a teacher for years, so I knew a lot about the ‘system’, home schooling wasn’t something that we’d really thought about until our second daughter was born. Then we started to do some research, and decided that it was the right road for our family to take. We wanted to take the pressure of our kiddos, to let them just enjoy being children for as long as possible. That’s not to say we’ve said “never” to school – circumstances change, and ultimately we will do whatever feels right for our family.

Children {and adults} learn so much just by living life, by being involved and by following their own interests. For us, unschooling means lots of arts and crafts, lots of time spent together. It means my girls helping to cook – so much maths + science involved in baking! – It means following their passions and facilitating their learning.

The way we homeschool has changed over the years – we go with what fits for each individul child as well as our family as a whole unit. You can follow along with our homeschooling adventures here

How do you manage everything – running a blog, a baby , a house & home-schooling three kiddos?

Quite frankly, I don’t! I take each day as it comes, I’m a huge list-maker and am good at prioritising. My kiddos always come first, so if they need me, then nothing else gets done. That said, I’m also very good at multi-tasking! Some days I’ll focus entirely on home-schooling, some days it’s all crafting {and if I’m crafting the girls will happily sit with me and help out} some days I’ll get ahead with some blogging …. and once in a blue moon I’ll clean the house :p I often work in an evening when they’ve gone to bed… movie on in the background and laptop on my knee – it’s amazing how much I can get done when the girls are asleep!!

You seem so happy and confident all the time, what is your secret?!

I haven’t always been a happy and confident person. I’ve spent years plagued with depression and eating disorders. Three years back I hit a low point, but I pulled myself up and out of it and changed my whole life. It took time, and it’s not an easy thing to overcome. But I’m truly blessed that I got through those hard times and that

What do you do when you are in a creative rut?
When I’m in a creative rut, I get away from it all. Put it down, get outside. Read a book. Lie in the bathtub. Bake. Play with my kiddos. Dance. Hoop. Get outside.`
