A letter as you turn nine

Dear Baya

It’s hard to believe that today you turn 9! NINE!! That seems impossible, it feels like five minutes since you arrived and I became a Mama of three beautiful girls. You were the baby of the family for five years, until your brother arrived. And while I worried about how you would adjust, I needn’t have. You loved him so much, and never minded him taking over your role as the youngest!

The years have flown by, and in my mind, you’re still the little toddler with ringlets, desperately trying to catch up with your big sisters, and wanting to join in everything that they were doing.

You’ve grown into your own now, you are your own person, full of love, full of giggles and full of fun. Some days, I look at you and catch a glimpse of the woman that you will be.

I’m so proud of you and all that you do. You are beautiful inside and out. You are confident, making friends wherever we go. You work so hard at your gymnastics and I’m always amazed that you can get up and perform in front of crowds.

It struck me last night, as I was putting the finishing touches to the birthday preparations, that we’re at the halfway point of childhood. In another nine years time you’ll be eighteen and an adult. That thought made me stop in my tracks, and shed a tear. It’s such a privilege to watch you grow up in front of my eyes, yet I can’t help but wish we could freeze time.

I hope that you keep the confidence you have now, that you never stop giggling and being such a goof. I hope that you know how much you are loved, and how much you have taught me.

I hope that your birthday is everything you want it to be, we love you ?

This is so beautiful, I have never written my son a letter, but I think I will. It is such a good memory, and as parents we forget what they were like previously and just focus on the now.

What a lovely letter to your daughter, my daughter turns 10 this year. I hadn’t even considered how she had reached halfway through childhood last year. What a scary thought that is. I love her hair too, I always colour my daughter’s hair pink or purple in the Summer. Hope she had a great day xx

Gorgeous girl – happy birthday. It makes me sad how fast they grow. My eldest daughter is almost 12 and pretty much my height, the next has just turned 10 and my baby boy is 6. x
