Delving into the world of online dating

online dating

After being married for fourteen years, re-entering the dating world was a little bit {OK rather a lot} daunting, and also a little bewildering. Before I married, dates were usually arranged with people you half knew, colleagues, schoolmates, friends of friends. There might be the odd blind date but that would be the extent of how you ‘met’ people.  I had a couple of dates last year in this way, friends of friends, old friends that I’ve known for years…. and then one night on a whim, I downloaded an online dating.

An online friend was chatting about how she was chatting to four blokes she’d met on one app, so I decided to have a look and see what all the fuss was about. It took a bit of figuring out the whole swiping thing out, and odd to have to make judgments based on looks to start with. Soon I heard the ping of messages coming in, some seemed genuine, some less so. I won’t lie, it was flattering to have some attention and to have a little fun chatting away.

There are so many online dating sites, making it easy to connect with people you are likely to get on with – or even just finding people who are in the same part of the country as you are. Whether you’re looking for Merseyside datingBuckinghamshire dating or a Norfolk dating site, you can find a site to suit your own needs. Maybe you are looking for single women in Watford or you’re looking for Devon dating opportunities – online dating is such a great way to open your horizons to meeting new people.

Tips for online dating

1| Pick a picture that shows the true you – if you’re not a glam, make-up kinda gal, don’t ile it on for the photo – it will only attract the wrong type of men for you.

2| Think about what you’re writing in your profile – asides from your photo, those tiny bio’s are what people will judge you on first. So think hard about what you’re saying about yourself and maybe get a friend to read it over too.

3| Message first – out with the old rules, if you see someone who catches your eye send them a friendly message to say hello!

4| Keep your options open – This is No Strings Dating – there’s no rule to say you can only chat to one person at a time – likewise the first meet up, it’s OK to have a few options on hand!

5| Stay safe – if you do arrange to meet up with someone, pick a public place and let someone know where you’re going.
