I’ve mentioned a couple of times in the last month that there were some changes coming in our lives. Well, today’s the big day – Lola starts school! I’m sure I’ll be sobbing as much as a Mum sending her 4-year-old off to reception class ha! {Which is why only her Dad is dropping her off not me, don’t need an embarrassing mum on the first day!}

We’ve been talking for a while about her options for next year when she’d be starting her GCSE’s, and she’d decided that she would like to go somewhere to do them, rather than do them at home. We’d be looking at what was available around here- various schools as well as a couple of colleges that let home ed kids in at 14. We came to the decision that school was the option she wanted to pursue, and the more we talked, the more we decided that actually, she might be better going in now. She’ll be going into Year 9, so she’ll have a little while to settle in, adjust to the school routine, find her feet and try out the subjects before she makes her options and starts the GCSE courses next year.

We applied to one school about a month ago, our favourite, and thankfully they had a place for her. We had a meeting there a couple of weeks ago, and were really impressed at how friendly and welcoming they made her {and us} feel.

She’s a mixture of nervous and excited {nervousited?!}, we’ve just spent a small fortune on school uniform and she’s all set! It’s going to be a big change for all of us. Getting up early in the morning will be the biggest challenge! Especially as she’ll have to take a bus ride every day to get to school. And for the rest of us, it’ll be odd not having her around all day every day.

We always have said that if/when the time came that any of the kiddos wanted to try school, then we’d fully support them. Home educations is fantastic, and it’s given her a great start. This is 100% her choice, and we’re excited to see her flourish at school. She has one week of school, and then it’s half term – so she’s getting eased in gently!

Here’s to new beginnings ?

    That’s amazing that she’s decided to start now, and it just shows the great guidance she’s received from you too. I still wish I could’ve done home schooling but I just worried I wouldnt find balance to their ages as they’re so close. We still do a lot of input around school though which is nice. I’m still not use to having school girls, I miss them lots! She’all thrive I’m sure :-)

    Wow how exciting but equally emotional time for all of you. I know she is going to do fantastically well there and it’s so good to hear that she has come to this decision on her own, well done Lola
