Casual Summer Style

I love summer clothes – it’s nice to not have to be wrapped up in twenty layers {and that’s before you leave the house}. I always get excited when Spring is here about being able to pack away the jumpers and winter boots and dig out sandals and strappy dresses. My summer style is simple. Home with four kids, I have no need to dress up, and I’m most comfortable in casual clothes – and they are far more practical too.

After my big wardrobe clear-out earlier in the year, I’ve been getting the hang of a capsule wardrobe. Having fewer clothes make getting dressed even easier, no longer do I spend twenty minutes staring into the abyss that was my wardrobe trying to find something I like/fits/suits me. I’ve started rotating clothes in and out, season depending, picking items that mix & match well, and only have things that I love and fit me.

For lazy summer days, I tend to stick to simple, loose fit dresses, swing cami’s, midi skirts and a pair of jeans. I tend to opt for fairly neutral colours, with the odd pop here and there, like this red floral cami. I literally live in my Birkenstocks over the summer months.

Adding a few accessories can really change the feel of the outfit, as well as dress it up a little if you’re going out. I like to add a few simple pieces of jewellery in the mix, asides from my wedding rings, I tend to stick to a watch, a simple necklace and some pretty stud earrings. They always make me feel a little more put together.

I don’t like anything too tight or fitted, asides from my jeans, so I stick to flowy type dresses and these swing cami’s – they’re great for disguesing a mum tum! As I’m still breastfeeding, I tend to look for strappy dresses, where I can drop a strap for easy boob access! I like clothes that I can get down and play with the kids in, that can also be dressed up a little if I’m acutally leaving the house!
