An afternoon in Bournemouth

We spent a few short hours in Bournemouth, the day before Camp Bestival. It’s such a long drive from North Wales to Dorset, that to be on the camp site for when it opens we’d have to leave in the early hours of the morning. We tried that the first year we went, expecting the kiddos to go back to sleep – but everyone was so excited they stayed awake. Meaning by the time we got there, got pitched and it was late afternoon, we had some very tired and naggy girls. SO last time, and this, we headed down a day early, got as far as Bournemouth and then spent a night in a hotel. It worked really well – meant the drive wasn’t so rushed, we could stop as much as we needed and we could have a relax and play on the beach, and then a good nights sleep before we hit the festival the next day.

We made it to Bournemouth for about 4pm, so we checked into the hotel, had a quick cuppa then took a walk down to the beach. The girls love it on the beach, and we lucked out sith sunshine. We spent a good hour or so splashing in the waves and hunting for shells. Beastie was really not sure what to make of it. It’s the first time he’s seen the sea up close and he was not too convinced! He liked looking, but didn’t want to splash! He was most taken with the pretty coloured beach huts {or at least all the screws holding the hinges on #suchaboy}. After a deliciously naughty chip supper, we took another walk back along the sea front.

We could almost have spent the whole weekend there {but Camp Bestival was too good to miss!} We’ve said we really should have a holiday in Bournemouth at some point, it’s a beautiful place, and we all decided we could happily live there! Though the property is crazy expensive compared to here in North Wales, so maybe that won’t happen anytime soon. I’d love to live by the sea, one day!

You must be the only people in the world to have seen that beach empty in the summer! I’ve only been once, and it is lovely.

Such beautiful photos, your kids are gorgeous! What a good idea of heading down day early and not having to rush – I think that is the way to go with long drives and kids. Also you got to explore such a nice place, have never really been to Bournemouth but it looks lovely
