5 ideas for ‘Mummy-Daughter Time’

Mummy-daughter time activity ideas

Mummy-daughter time – is it something that you schedule in? I’m lucky to have four children, four fab children that I get to spend all day every day with. While we have a lot of time together, I also think it’s really important to carve out some one-on-one time with each of them. The girls LOVE getting to do something special with just me, it’s a great chance to spend some quality time with them and gives them a chance to talk to me without anyone else around. As my girls are growing up, I think it’s vital that they know they can always talk to me, and making time for them lets them know that I’m available.

Now, with four kids, home-schooling AND working, time is kinda stretched as you can imagine. I’ve learnt to be creative with finding snatches of time to spend with my girls – the older ones can stay up later after the baby is in bed, or we’ll leave everyone else with Daddy and sneak out for a morning date. Even half-an-hour a week can be slotted in easily enough.

1| Get in the kitchen together
My kids love to bake, and getting one of them in the kitchen with me is a great way to spend some time together. I let them pick what we’re baking, and together we can whip up something tasty and have a little bit of fun together too!

2| Have a ‘pamper night’
Dig out the nail varnish, some body lotion and whip up a homemade facemask. Kids love the chance to paint their Mama’s nails {and half of their fingers and toes too!!}, and spending some girlie time together can be fun – give each other an arm massage, pop on that facemask and paint your nails – you could even make some mocktails too!

3| Go out for a hot chocolate
Pick a great local cafe, order hot chocolates {complete with whipped cream and marshmallows of course!} and maybe even a cake or two.. kiddos love a trip to a cafe and it’s a great chance to let them lead the conversation and find out what they’re thinking!

4| Movie night
Movie nights are one of our most frequent ways to spend some solo time together. Once everyone else is tucked up in bed, pick a movie, pop some corn and snuggle up together on the sofa for a fun, cosy evening.

5| Get colouring
My girlies love colouring in {nearly} as much as I do – some afternoons, when the baby is napping, one of the girls and I will grab the Sharpies and colour and chat for an hour. Baya and I have been enjoying this ‘Colour With Me, Mum!’ colouring book – perfect for afternoon dates, it is full of gorgeous artwork with one detailed side for Mama to colour and a simpler side to the picture for your little one. The book is split into sections, and even has some great tips and conversation starters to help you on your way. I could happily spend whole afternoons colouring in {darn having to work!!}
