Toddler proofing the garden

Despite the fact its still winter and freezing cold, I made the most of yesterday’s sunshine and spent a (cold) half an hour in the garden. I raked up some leaves, picked up some rubbish, piled up a few things that need to go to the tip (the kids old picnic table that got broken in the storms and their old playhouse).

I can’t wait for the warmer weather to arrive so we can spend more time outdoors. The girls love to play in the garden and Vega really loves being outdoors. I’m planning a summer full of gardem fun… BBQ’s, picnic lunches, lazy afternoons, splashing in the paddling pool and digging in the mud.

I started making a mental list of all the things that need doing to the garden. The lawn needs reseeding, the trees cutting back a little, a couple of loose bricks need cementing back down and I need to get some summer bulbs to plant.

This will be the first summer that Vega is mobile and running around the garden. While there is nothing especially dangerous, I don’t want him running around outside with no-one watching him. Our playroom has french windows which open out onto a small patio, then there is a slope down to the main garden. Through the summer we usually keep these doors wide open to let some air into the house – this of course will mean Vega can escape into the garden whenever he likes!

Talking to G the other day, i suggested outting a little fence across the patio. That way Vega will have access to the patio and a (safe) outside space to play on and I will know that he cant get into the rest of the garden when there isn’t anyone nearby to supervise him.

G has been measurig up and makong plans, he needs to order some fence panels, a gate and some Barrier Components as we need a gate on the fence too so that we can get down into the garden without having to go all the way through the house! Hopefully i wibe ready before the warmer weather arrives.
