Camp Bestival 2014 – Review Part One

After a great night’s sleep at Bournemouth Travelodge (check here for special offers at Travelodge before you book), we stopped at Tesco’s to stock up on fresh food and then drove the 45 minutes to Camp Bestival. We arrived just before 10am, and collected our wristbands. The kiddos were very excited to have a wrist full of bands! Half an hour or so later, then opened the gates and let people onto the Campsite. Now, this is where the only problem we had all weekend occored. We’d paid for Camping Plus, basically a pre-marked out pitch on a separate camping field. We did this last year too, and it was great – meant we didn’t have to worry about being there early to snag a good spot. Anyway, we marched across the field to the Violet section, loaded up with tents and bags, to find that the pitches suddenly stopped being marked out just before we got to our area. We were told they had run out of tent pegs to hold the markers down, and someone would be with us in ten minutes to show us which was our spot. Ten minutes turned into two hours, and we were no closer to setting up camp. All the workers seemed confused as to where rows/areas were. Evenutally, the bloke in charge came across and gave us a spot – not where we should have been according to the online map when we booked, but by that point I was past caring! We finally got the tents up, G went back to the car with a trolley to bring everything else across and we were set up and ready for the weekend.

Camp set up, we headed onto the festival site for an explore. It was nice to see that a little more was open on the Thursday than last year, so we had a little walk around then found some food for dinner which we sat and ate in the sunshine in the Soul Park. We headed back to the tent’s quite early as we were exhausted and knew it would be a busy weekend.

Friday wasn’t quite so hot and sunny, there were a couple of showers but not enough to spoil the fun. The girls really loved the Kids Field this year, Lola was excited to join in some of the workshops in the Science Tent and Baya and Kiki loved the Art Tent. They got to make hula-hoops on Friday afternoon which was great fun! Plus these two tents were next door to each other, so the kiddos could have fun while Mama and Papa chilled out on the grass!

More delicious food followed – the great thing about festivals, is that all five of us can eat something different! It’s just so hard to choose when there are so many tasty options on offer. Baya stuck with Pizza and Chips most nights, and Kiki was delighted to find a Mac n Cheese caravan there {it was the tastiest macaroni cheese ever!}

We headed to watch James on the Castle Stage that night, but Baya had had enough by then, so we went back to the tent for supper and colouring in, leaving G and the big girls to enjoy the show! We all collapsed into bed, and fell asleep straight away ready for another day of fun….

    I am SO impressed that you were camping when pregnant! Also, I’d been sworn off festivals for life but this looks brilliant, especially as there’s so much for the children to do. We’re so going when E and the new baby is older x

    Glad the mix up with the camping plus didn’t spoil your weekend. Your pics show just how much is going on and that’s only a snippet! We loved making a hoop at the children’s hospice tent – I’m getting a bit addicted to hooping!

    Oh what a pain about the camping, especially having to wait 2 hours with 3 kids and another on the way – I also would of gone past the point of caring. Otherwise it sounds like you had an amazing time and I cannot wait to see the second instalment and I love all the craft photos and activities – we heart camp Bestival so much for kiddos :)
