A day in the woods
Papa
We walked up to the house first, and delved into the picnic I had packed. Falafel wraps, greek salad, crisps, then homemade brownies for afters. Why does food always taste so much better when it’s eaten outdoors?! We found some ducklings and some giant koi carp, both of whom were happy to eat some picnic leftovers! The kiddos love playing in the Wolf’s Den – the wooden adventure playground they built last year. I think the rope swing is the favourite attraction {for Mama and Papa too!}
After a long play, we took a walk back though the woods, finding lots of fallen trees to climb on, hills to run up and down and sticks to play with. I really don’t think much beats a day in the woods, away from the noise of every day life, with no technology. Just the peaceful sound of birds singing and children giggling.
We made it home in time for a roast dinner and some more playing in the sun in the garden. A perfect end to a great weekend!

For some reasons your images are too big for my screen so I have to scroll across to see the entire picture. No one else has mentioned it though so not sure if it’s just me (I’m on my MacBook Air).

June 10, 2014 at 01:19It’s certainly fun and attractive, but to be fair it seems to me rather sanitised and moderate compared with my own imagination of families who (via cultivation and farming) can be self-sufficient and still live completely wild and feel nature every day, and who live a life of far less comfort than I imagine you do via extremes of fasting (one meal and nothing else — even water — every day) and spiritual devotion. My stories are fictional and at present unformed, but their effects upon my imagination as a city dweller in the world’s worst polluter cannot be denied (at all event by myself).

30 Great Picnic Ideas | Tots 100
August 25, 2014 at 09:31[…] Depending on where you picnic, you might be able to hire bikes. Karen from Making Memories In The Chaos went to Castlewellan Forest Park in County Down recently and bundled her little ones into a trailer! If that sounds a bit strenuous for you, take a leaf (pardon the pun) out of This Enchanted Pixie‘s book and find some fallen trees to clamber over. […]
