Sewing Days
Today turned out just perfect. I slept terribly last night {so did Papa}… I’m not sure why, but I woke up around 4 and tossed and turned for the rest of the night. So when it was time to get up I really didn’t feel like facing the day. Baya came in very excited as she’d managed another night {the fourth in a row} in her own bed. For the whole night. I love snuggling in with her, but the time has come that she sleeps in her own bed all night long. So we’ve chatted about it, and the past week has seen her in my bed only one night. She has a Gro-Clock, and she knows if Cinderella is awake then she can come through. Though Kiki tells me Baya shouted at her one night at 3am to see if it was time to get up! I have a little bag of ‘prizes’, and she’s been picking one out each morning if she’s slept in her bed all night long. Today she choose a Princess canvas picture to colour in. Which at least meant I got to drink my morning tea in peace ;)
I had an appointment this morning, and thankfully a friend came to sit with the girls, as I couldn’t take them with me and Papa had to work. Home for lunch, and then the grocery order came. By the time that was all put away, I found the sun shining through the window and the kiddos engrossed in a game.
Feeling inspired, I pulled out the sewing machine. The vinyl went on {The Band} and I spent a good couple of hours sewing. I tackled some of my mending pile, and then made some more cloth napkins. They’ve been on my to-do list for a long time, and we were in need of more. We switched to cloth napkins a couple of years ago, fed up off all the kitchen roll we were using and looking for a more eco-friendly solution {and more cost effective too}. They take barely anytime to whip up, and are a great way of using up some of those oddments of fabric that I have in my box. The ones that aren’t quite big enough for much else, but too big to throw away. A dozen napkins made, I stitched up the three cushion covers I’ve been planning on making for the past couple of months. Actually made from tea-towels that I picked up in a store as I couldn’t resist the patterns, they brighten up the sofa nicely.
Just as I’d packed away and cleared up my mess, the girlies came back in looking for something to do. So we got out the So Styly Friendship Bracelet kit we’d been sent. I spent so many hours making friendship bracelets when I was little, and thankfully, I hadn’t forgotten how! Although the kit came with a great booklet full of instructions – which I think may come in useful when we tackle some of the more complicated patterns! There was also a little board in the kit, which you could use to hold your threads in place wilst your working. We tried it out, but found that it was tricky to hold in place and actually, just pinning it to a cushion like I used to was a far more effective method. The kiddos loved making bracelets, especially when I told them I used to make them too.
We rounded off the day with sweet potato rissoto and fresh bread, with juicy pineapple for desert. If I can keep my eyes open long enough, I’m planning on some knitting time tonight. I haven’t knitted in a while and there are some little things that I need to get on with making!

May 27, 2014 at 19:42Might have to have a go at making my own napkins with scrap fabric. I’m so tired of buying packets of baby wipes all the time. I remember making loads of friendship bracelets when I was younger. I used to safety pin it to my knee though…that kit looks a lot easier!
