Snail Mail
I
It took us a while to choose, as picking one thing that all three wanted wasn’t easy! Eventually we settled on the National Geographic Kids, although I was tempted by storybox, but that was a bit too little for the bigger ones. So now they are eagerly awaiting their first copy to arrive in our mailbox!
It also made me think, that perhaps some of you have kiddos similar ages to mine {almost 11, 7 and 5} who would like a penfriend? Or fancy exchanging postcards?? I know my girls would love to get some more fun mail, and be excited to send some letters or postcards back too. Drop me an email if you’d like to exchange some snail mail.

April 26, 2014 at 21:51My daughter especially loves getting letters. She regularly sends cards to some of my friends…(who are now her friends!) and they love receiving them. There is something extra special about letters rather than e-mails/texts etc

April 26, 2014 at 22:07I love letter writing! There is such a buzz to receiving personal items of post over bills and junk.
I hope yours look forward to their post each month.

April 27, 2014 at 07:24What a lovely idea! I do not have any kids, but I am sure you’ll get a lot of excited tweens to participate. It’s retro to use “paper” and actual stamps to write a letter or in this case a postcard. It is also valuable to show your kids the benefits of handwriting – advanced literacy, problem solving and a unique skill set. I hope this spring hobby turns into a lifelong love of handwriting and sending snail mail! xx

April 27, 2014 at 09:26I love the idea of setting up pen friends for your kids! With them growing up nowadays with the internet and instant messaging I can imagine some children won’t ever really write real letters to friends or receive them in the post, and that’s quite sad! I used to love writing letters, decorating them with stickers and posting them in hte post box then eagerly waiting a reply! So much fun!

April 27, 2014 at 10:06My kids always want to get letters too, but when I suggest actually writing letters to their cousins or friends who live further way the response is always a horrified face!!

April 27, 2014 at 10:44I’ll email you because I know Florence (7) would LOVE a pen pal :) Perfect! I loved getting stuff through the post too, and I was looking into Fan Clubs the other day. I remember being part of the Jason Donovan (!!) one and every now & then i’d get stuff through from them & it made my week! Sadly though, it all seems online now & my kids get emailed stuff to me instead :( It’s just not the same!

April 28, 2014 at 11:22I love getting mail and our eldest does too! Let us know if you want a pen pal in France! At 4 and a half Reuben is only just starting to write but it would be a great way to encourage him to practise writing more, and there’s lots of other stuff we could send like photos and drawings!
