This weeks Mamaheart is the beautiful Lauren..

Lauren - Mamaheart

What does motherhood mean to you?

To me, motherhood is so many things – from the best kind of love to the biggest kind of responsibility. It can be both beautiful and hard, frustrating and liberating, but it always gives meaning to life.

How has motherhood changed you?
Being a mother has changed me in many ways, but I think one of the most obvious (to me, at least) is a shift in perspective from being a kid to having one. It reminds me of a quote from the movie Away We Go, when one parent tells another soon-to-be parent that ‘You have to be so much better than you ever thought’. One day you’re a twenty-one year old kid, and a few months later you’re a twenty-one year old mama – with all the love and responsibility that comes with it. It’s a big change, but so worth it.

What is the hardest part of being a mama?

I’d have to say the ‘hardest thing’ for me changes fairly regularly. If you had asked me this question four years ago, I’d have said potty training. Now, it’s teaching my son to read. If you have a kid around that age, you know. You sit at the table and sound out the same words over and over and over until you want to pull your hair out and scream ‘CAT HAT FAT SAT BAT!’ and then reward yourself with a cookie.

What is the biggest joy that your children have given you?

The biggest joy my son has given me can best be summed up by his morning ritual, when he puts his little arms around my neck, rubs his nose against mine, and sings this little song that goes ‘bee-you-bee-you, Isaac loves you’. I’m not sure what the first half of it means, exactly, but it makes me so happy to be so loved and needed.

What one piece of advice would you give a first time mama?

Be patient with yourself.
This doesn’t come easy to anyone.
Also, have a cookie.

Away We Go is such a great film. It’s come back to mind loads since becoming a parent. I also love that you reward yourself with a cookie. :)
