The Big Bang Fair

Kiki making smoothies on a pedal powered machine!

Yesterday we got up super early {for us!} at 6am to catch a train to Birmingham for the Big Bang Fair. We are not morning people, so getting us all up and dressed at that time in the morning is no easy feat. Two hours later we pulled into the NEC. When we first walked in I think we were all a little overwhelmed… huge hall and lots of groups of teenagers… ha! We found a solar system projection/talk to watch and then we were away. The kiddos had a great time, so much to see and so much to do. Baya’s favourite was a stand by the RNLI where you had to try and not ducks off a shelf with a water pistol. We had fun making {and launching} rockets, looking at how a bow would have gone through the armour King Richard III wore and discovering why they think the Mary Rose sank.

Papa and the big kiddos went to watch a show at the end of the afternoon called ‘Kaboom!’ – as the name suggests there were lots of VERY loud bangs which Baya wasn’t too keen on, so we went for cake and another game of duck shooting ;) By the time we’d done we were all exhausted, and not really looking forward to two hours on a train. Thankfully, Instagram rescued us and we found out that friends of ours were on the same train. After waiting a couple of stops for the train to clear, then nearly getting locked in the wrong end of the train {a couple of the carriages were being detached a few stops before ours} we managed to sit with them. The kiddos got their second wind and had a fun ride home – apologies to anyone on the train for all the noise we made!

Home a full twelve hours after we left, and we treated ourselves to an Indian Takeaway for dinner. We all had a fun day and the kiddos are already planning next years visit!
