Organising….

By the time Christmas has come and gone, and the new year is in sight, I begin to feel the urge to clear away all the clutter of the season. We always put our tree up at the begining of December, so by the time the month is drawing to a close, I’m ready to say goodbye for another year. The New Year brings new begininings, a chance to start a clean slate. It always feels good {to me at least} to have a thorough clean and declutter/ Post Christmas, I always have to play the ‘find a home for all the new stuff game’, so in the process, it’s good to clean and tidy as I go. Starting the New Year with a clean and tidy home, makes me feel that I am starting off on a good foot, organised and ready to go!

While Papa worked, and the girls were engrossed in piles of gifts, I worked my way through the house from top to bottom. The girls bedrooms got a clean and re-organise. After all, we had to clear floor space in the room Kiki and Baya share for them to set up a village of the Sylvanian Families that Santa kindly brought them ;) My room got a much needed clean {it’s the one room that seems to always end up as the dumping ground for all that we don’t know where else to put – mainly, I presume, as it is the one room that guests don’t really see!}

The bathroom and kitchen got a good going over too – Santa brought me a waffle iron and a new blender, so I needed to make surface space for these also! My poor office, I try so hard to keep my desk clean and tidy, but always fail! At least, for a week or two, I can sit and craft away without having to clear piles of papers!

Our living/dining room is our main space, the place that we spend most of our days and evenings too. While this winter has so far been mild, since the New Year we have had a crazy amount of rain, meaning lots of time spent indoors! It isn’t the biggest space, so keeping it tidy{ish} and organsised really is imporant. The dining room doubles as our school room/craft room. The shelves all got cleared off, everything put back in it’s place, freshly sharpened pencils are ready in the pots.

We were all strangely glad to get back to our normal routine this week, we have lists drawn up of what we want to learn these next few weeks and a list of crafts we want to tackle. The only hard thing is getting up in the morning…. after a few weeks of late nights and late mornings, making myself get up when the alarm goes off is proving rather hard! Monday I managed it… yesterday I must have switched it off in my sleep, today I was awake before my alarm went off!! I got rewarded with a quiet house for half an hour ;)

How are you friends? Are you glad to be welcoming in the New Year or are you missing the holidays?

    Glad to return to normal here too but frustrated at my lack of energy and bouts of depression that are hindering progress. Want so much to spring clean, reorganise and paint but most days I’m just grateful to have got through another day. Roll on spring!

    Your living space is just beautiful. Looks so cosy and welcoming :) xxx

      Thanks Lorna – it may be small, but I do love my home! We know we want to move in the next year or so, and I will be sad to leave here.

    You have such a lovely eclectic home. I love the school area for your girls – so organized and functional, yet still homey and cozy! Funny side note: my little girl has that same “My First Calendar” – she got it for her birthday in December and adores it. :) I too do the method of cleaning/organizing/getting rid of stuff while finding homes for new gifts. It’s efficient! And I am so excited for this new year, and new projects to accompany it. While I enjoyed the holiday season, I was very ready to welcome the new year.

      Thanks Kay! The school area is right in the main living area we have, so I didn’t want it to be too ‘formal’ – I wanted it to fit right in with the rest of the house! Baya loves that Calendar :D

      I felt the same this year, I really enjoyed the holidays, but was excited for a new year to come :)
