How to make your house smell like Christmas

How to make your house smell like Christmas

The kiddos opened the envelope in the advent calender I made them to find the card that says ‘Put the tree up’ – they are SO excited {and so am I!} I love love love getting our tree up, twinkly lights and vintage baubles. We have our tree-putting-up record ready {this one!} There is something so magical about the smell of a Chrsitmas tree isn’t htere? One whiff and I’m an excited little girl again, waiting for Santa to arrive with a stocking full of gifts.

As we only have a fake tree this year, I’ve just put some stove-top potpourri to simmer on the stove – so at least the house smell incredible and festive. It’s a great way to scent the house, without using any artificial, chemical filled room fragrances.

For a great festive scent you’ll need:

one orange
two bay leaves
two cinnamon sticks
a sprinkling ground cloves or a handful of whole cloves

Cut orange into slices, place everything into a saucepan and simmer on the stove. Top up the water throughout the day as needed.

I can’t wait to start up my stove potpourri! I have yet to get some going this year – ours is almost the same recipe, though I toss some lemons in mine as well.
